I’ve lost my voice – 24 hours of chaotic but wonderful madness – from MC at the Community Christmas Carols singing Jingle Bells as the fat red man arrived and was nearly crushed by kids.
MC at the Society of Women Writers luncheon – more singing – with the incredible Liz Taylor – rock singer, cabaret performer who doubles as a celebrant these days – a dynamic entertainer who rocked the historic Dixson Room at the Mitchell Library with a Tina Turner impersonation.
There were heart felt moments when I spoke about Room to Read – reaching more than 10 million kids in the Asia and Africa – education is the way towards reducing poverty and terrorism. I value my role as a Writer Ambassador for Room to Read. Libby Hathorn, another Writers Ambassador was there supporting Room to Read.
At the Society’s luncheon, Professor Webby spoke about the importance of the Abbie Clancy Award supporting research into the role of women in literature and society. It was such a pleasure to award Isobelle Barrett Meyering the Abbie Clancy Award for her work on Joyce Nicholson a pioneer in the second rise of feminism with her feminist book ‘What Society Does to Girls’ (1975) and other works.
Eastside Radio 89.7 FM – ‘Sunburnt Soul with Rev Ben and Susie G’ – it’s fun recording at the Paddington studios. Rev Ben and I explore those soul issues and have lots of heckling on the way – I’m the heckler of course. We talked about Courage at today’s jam session .
We played one of my favourite songs – the theme song of ‘Chariots of Fire’ – da da da da dum…. my heart sopars when I listen to it.
My 24 hours ended with a TV and Film party at The Bank Hotel in Newtown with the brilliant producer Ana Tiwary – we drank, ate and made merry as the year moves towards an end.
Bed at last – aaahhhhhh.
