La Perouse Kids LOVE Books in Homes

The original owners of the land past and present at La Perouse are the Kameygal.

La Perouse is an area of Sydney where the Aboriginal people have had an unbroken connection for over 7,500 years.

There are around 50 children from 5 to 12 years old at La Perouse Public School. Lots of the children have aboriginal heritage.

They are gorgeous kids enthusiastic about their garden. They’re growing pumpkins and tomatoes at the moment.

They’re also enthusiastic about the books they received from Books In Homes.

I loved speaking to them about writing and my son JACK in ‘I Am Jack’.

Spiro on the board of South Sydney Juniors gave out books to the kids. Souths is a great supporter of La Perouse School and Books in Homes.

Love being an author Role Model for Books in Homes to the kids of La Perouse School.

Books in Homes, South Sydney Junior Rugby League Club & La Perouse Public School

As an Author Role Model I have the joy of supporting the Books In Homes Programme.

I’ll be giving out books at La Perouse Public School in Sydney, at the  Book Giving Assembly next week.

South Sydney Junior Rugby League Club is a sponsor of the Books in Home programme at La Perouse Public School. I LOVE that.

“The Books in Homes Programme has given our children the choice and ownership of books to read and enjoy at home.”  Empowering Kids, Literally.

Books in Homes provides good new books to children and families living in disadvantaged circumstances in Australia,  promoting reading and literacy.

Since 2001, Books in Homes has distributed in excess of 1,000,000 new books to more than 110,000 needy children from 290 schools and communities around Australia.

I’m proud to be an author Role Model for Books in Homes.

Woollahra Council Celebrates the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning tea with ‘Always Jack’

Thankyou to Woollahra Council for holding this community event in the beautiful Council Chambers overlooking Sydney Harbour.

It was moving sharing the story of writing ‘Always Jack’ with the audience – making it safe to talk about cancer.

As long as we share with family and community, it feels all right.

I had some moving  comments – ‘My father died at 57 – too young – I never spoke to him. he never spoke to his family.’

Silence isn’t an answer – sharing the journey is.

For information about Tea Topics, literary events, library get togethers call Woollahra Council on 9371 7100 or check the website – www.woollahra.nsw.gov.au

The Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea with Kids across NSW from Far West to inner city Sydney

Reaching more than 20 fantastic schools across NSW from  the far West to inner city Sydney – reaching 100′s kids and  teachers, we celebrated  the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea with Jack’s healthy banana cake ~ receipe is at the back of ‘Always Jack’

The Education Department Connections studios are next to ABC Radio.

Dugal Saunders – the entertaining ABC radio presenter dropped in to watch schools from Kooringal, Cudgegong to Eugowra who connected to the Connections show.

This inter-active TV is wonderful.

We loved the virtual cake eating – Nanna’s teeth that always fall out are on top of Jack’s cake!!!!

Thankyou to all the kids who asked me questions. A few of them:-

Kellyville Public School: What inspired you to write books?

Answer: All of you kids. Want to write books that are your friends.

Matraville Soldiers Settlement School: How hard is it working & raising a family while you go through cancer?

Answer: Hard, but loving as long as my kids, family, friends are part of the journey.
