I caught up with the engaging Paul Stafford who was talking on Boys Literacy and the journey of being a writer. He’s great.
Got to meet some of my favourite people – school librarians. Thankyou to conference convenor Sue Graffen, from The Riverina Anglican College for welcoming me.
She heard my interview on ‘Ships in the Field’ with Michael Cathcart on ABC Radio which is why she invited me to speak about ‘Ships in the Field’ as part of the immigrant journey and also for visual literacy.

I had some moving moments at the conference sharing ‘Ships in the Field’ and how my parents came here as refugees living in one room, with my father working in a car factory and my mother sewing. How in one generation, their journey was validated as I received an order of Australia for contribution to my country.
There was an emotional JACK sharing, when I was told how through I AM JACK, an 11 year old girl was comforted and empowered to go on. Today that girl and her family, share stand up against bullying through Jack. The family call it a ‘JACK MOMENT’.
Enjoyed meeting Megan Perry who is taking books and programmes to regional NSW from the NSW State Library. Fantastic.
