Sharing ‘Ships in the Field’ with the Central Coast Adventist School

Central Coast Adventist Erina School, 'I Am Jack', Ships in the FieldSometimes days stay in your mind – this is one of them.

Driving to the Central Coast, travelling along:-

winding roads,

through fields and farm houses

on a glorious sunny day

with my beautiful daughter Tory

to speak to young people about my books is very special.

The fabulous teachers and kids from the Central Coast Adventist School are studying my JACK books. They love the characters that inhabit them – the Nanna who is inspired by my children’s Nanna, the sister inspired by my daughter and of course JACK inspired by my son.

I shared ‘Ships in the Field’ with them – the story of my family sailing away from war and devastation with fear and dreams for a new future. Sailing to – the fields of a new life.

OAM, Order of Australia Can you imagine how amazing it is that my parents came with nothing to this country, and within one generation their daughter is awarded an OAM.

It is a celebration of courage, and the human desire to rebuild and contribute to a peaceful world.

I loved my 3 week Book ‘Week’ (month) tour which I just finished before I fly to the IBBY Congress in London to speak on ‘Ships in the Field’.
