Coffs Conference Celebrates National Year of Reading

Coffs Harbour Conference with teacher librarians for the National year of readingCoffs Harbour Conference at Mary Help of Christians School with Ambassador for the National Year of Reading Susanne GervayLove being an ambassador for the National Year of Reading.

Just came back from two days in Coffs Harbour when I was invited as an Ambassador to speak to 100’s of kids, parents, teachers and fantastic teacher-librarians from the Lismore Diocese.

Spoke about Room to read – partner with National Year of Reading – bringing literacy to the children of the developing world.

It was a celerbation of reading and loved sharing my Ships in the Field, JACK books, ‘Butterflies’, ‘That’s Why I Wrote This Song’ and special bonus is that Coffs is beautiful!

Thankyou to Mary Walsh Deputy Principal at Mary Help of Christians School Sawtell and Karen Bale teacher-librarian and all the librarians.

Had a great time.

I'm a writer committed to kids in particular. Adults are good too. Want to bring hope through story to my readers. Awarded an Order of Australia, Lady Cutler Award and a Lifetime International Award for Literacy for my body of work, spreading literacy is really important. I'm head of SCBWI Australia East & New Zealand, patron of Monkey Baa Theatre, Ambassador for the Premier's Reading Challenge, Writer Ambassador for Room to Read ... among other roles. I also love heritage and adapting to enhance the lives of people today, which is why I restored The Hughenden Hotel 1870s and The Residences Centennial Park - the only homes in the parklands which are open now for accommodation, events and lots of nature.
