They're My Job
When I was at school I played in the jazz and concert bands, hung out in the music rooms, studied the trumpet, wrote songs and went to as many gigs I could afford and was allowed to go to. I was nearly the first person in the ticket booking queue when Eminem came out. I got front row tickets which was fantastic.
I love all music from rock bands, dance, Beethoven to musicals. I go to the musicals with Mum and Dad and my brother Jamie. (Luckily, Mum pays.) My favourite musicals have been Billy Elliot, Phantom of the Opera and Priscilla. I thought Shout, about Australia's first rock and roller Johnny O'Keefe, was great, especially since my cousin Alexis Fishman was in it. She played Johnny's girlfriend.

I always knew that when I left school I'd work in music some how, some way. I studied music, worked part time as a security guard for festivals and gigs, did unpaid work experience for nine months in music marketing, sent out my CV to every music publisher in the country. I got only one interview. I was really nervous. I really wanted this job. I thought about what to wear at the interview, what to say, how to act ….. – I got the job!

I work in music publishing for the largest independent music publisher in Australia. We manage the publishing side of bands, performers and song writers like:-
Savage Garden | Darren Hayes
The Butterfly Effect | Evermore
Kisschasy | Small Mercies

My job is full-on and varied ranging from working with television, radio, film in Australia and throughout the world, marketing, licensing songs, royalties, finding and developing new talent, dealing with band managers.
I work with the bands and performers, go to their gigs, meet bands, negotiate deals, go back stage and after parties and music events like the MTV Awards, Arias, special music industry events. A highlight was when Good Charlotte played in Sydney doing a special performance. I have been a Good Charlotte fan since I've been fourteen.

Part of my work is going to concerts, festivals, gigs, supporting our bands and performers, knowing the music scene. I have to do this outside work hours on weekends and nights. Poor me. Of course, I love it. I go with my friends and my brother's friends. I've had some really amazing times. These are a couple of the festivals I've been to:-
Place: Canberra
Type: Dance Music
Main performers: Sneaky Sound System, Midnight Juggernauts, Muscles
Scene: One major stage
Our Performer: Midnight Juggernauts.
Personal stuff: Drove down in a car load of girlfriends to Canberra and crashed at my brother's place.
It rained and rained and rained. Mud was everywhere at Foreshore. Some of the idiot guys had this huge mud fight and looked like horror movie monsters, then chased the girls around trying to grab us.
Since it was a smaller festival, seemed to bump into heaps of people I knew. It was like a huge party. Music was fantastic and we danced and danced. Scale: 10 out of 10. It was FUN.

Place: Centennial Parklands, Sydney
Type: Everything from rap to rock to Jamaican to dance bands
Main Performers: Smashing Pumpkins, Duran Duran, Queens of The Stone Age
Scene: 5 stages, huge event
Personal stuff: Really crazy event with 20,000 people. Lots of contraband. One guy climbed to the top of the marquis tent and nearly killed himself. I'd say he was as off his face. Everyone was cheering him and security went crazy. Good news is that he didn't crash land and die. He could have.
Scale: 9 out of 10. Great music but lost my friends in the middle of the crowds. Still loved it.

Everyone keeps asking me if I've done self-defence. I always say - 'Sure. I'm a Black Belt Martial Arts expert.'
AS IF!!!!!!

I write the music, lyrics, sing, study music. My part-time work is as a music & celebrity guard. That's why I guard the bands, the singers, the rich and the famous, and the not-so-rich and the ones trying to get there.
This is what I look like in my security gear - Do I look tough? HA!
