Room to Read – Writer Ambassador

I am proud to be a Writer Ambassador for Room to Read. Room to Read is bringing literacy to children in the developing world in a partnership with local communities in Nepal, Zambia, India, Vietnam, South Africa, Tanzania, Bangladesh, Laos, Combodia, Sri Lanka.

Room to Read works with communities and families in remote areas to provide girls’ scholarships, build libraries and schools, publish bi-lingual books, distribute books and has reached more than 9 million children.

Room to Read Writer ambassadors gather at The Hughenden Hotel to support Room to Read. The Room to Read logo is on Writer Ambassador websites and blogs.

John Wood CEO of Room to Read and co founder of Room to Read, thanked the Room to Read Australian team and volunteers, SCBWI authors and illustrators at celebrations in The Hughenden Sydney.

The ‘I Am Jack’ books support Room to Read with the final and 4th ‘I Am Jack’ book BEING JACK supporting Room to Read and advocating the importance of literacy.

Jennie Orchard and Mihiri Udage Coordinators of the Writer Ambassador program welcomes best selling children’s authors and illustrators, as writer ambassadors – Libby Hathorn, Deborah Abela, Tristan Bancks, Melina Marchetta, Markus Zusak, Kate Forsyth, Belinda Murrell, Sarah Davis, Oliver Phommavanh, Serena Geddes, Jacqueline Harvey, others and Susanne Gervay.

Markus Zusak was the keynote speaker at the First Australian Literary event at the Queen Victoria Tea Rooms Sydney. Recently the Writers Ambassadors manned Berkelouw’s Bookshops taking Room to Read across Sydney. Deborah Abela and Susanne Gervay hammed it up – as a pig and sheep!

ZAK the YAK, Room to Read’s mascot joined in at the SCBWI stand at the CBCA Big Book Day Out Fair. Susanne and Zak had a great time speaking about books.
